Wisdom for Enjoying Life

Doing any kind of ministry is tough. Yet, God wants us not only to do ministry well but also to enjoy him completely in the process. This is what Dr. John Piper calls Christian hedonism. Piper rightly says, “God is most glorified in us when we are most satisfied in him. The Westminster Shorter Catechism puts it this way: “Man’s chief end is to glorify God, and to enjoy him forever.” In fact, you glorify God by enjoying him. God is life and the giver of life and we believe he wants us to enjoy his gift of life. How can you serve God fully and also enjoy this life at the same time? The answer is: Wisdom for Enjoying Life. God is the seat of wisdom and the giver of all wisdom. We believe that the best way to glorify God with his gift of life is to seek wisdom for enjoying life to the full. Christ came that we may have life and have it more abundantly. Godly wisdom is the pathway to enjoying an abundant life today.

Yes, we are to carry our crosses and follow Christ. In spite of that, like Christ, we can and should enjoy life.

Paul told Timothy:

“Instruct those who are rich in the present age not to be arrogant or to set their hope on the uncertainty of wealth, but on God, who richly provides us with all things to enjoy. ” 1 Timothy 1:16 HCSB

God richly provides us with ALL things to enjoy. The ESV renders it as, God “richly provides us with everything to enjoy.”

The amplified Bible puts it like this: God “richly and ceaselessly provides us with everything for our enjoyment.”

As Christians with a passion for ministry, it’s easy to forget that we also glorify God by enjoying life. It’s easy to walk the path of life and forget to stop and smell the roses. And we don’t need to be super rich to enjoy life. We simply need godly wisdom and a surrendered heart that recognizes that the world is not ours to change. Only God can change the world. It’s our duty to walk the journey assigned to us and to enjoy every bit of it.

All of us need to continue to learn and grow in wisdom with one goal being to thoroughly enjoy life–this precious gift that God has given us to enjoy, be satisfied, and glorify him in the process.

There are a lot of depressed people in ministry. We can be 100% effective in ministry and also enjoy Life at the same time. For that, we need wisdom for enjoying Life.
