One of the most important things you can do in orphan care is teaching children that they have the ability to shape their destinies. If they grow up with a victim mentality, they will always look for handouts, always sit back and allow others to do things for them, and always have an attitude or pity. Is it true that many poor people in developing countries have less opportunity? Yes. Are they at a disadvantage simply because of their income level or country of birth? Definitely. But this does not change the fact that we all, every single human, has the power to shape their destinies. Teach them to endure, to build character, to try hard, and to believe in themselves.
