In my childhood years, the most exciting thing was learning about my culture and the African heritage. I was fascinated to be identified as an African especially with the unique values, norms and short stories told over the fire. It is true that part of who I’ve become has largely been shaped by this exposure especially through socialization. At this point, it is important to note that some of these exposures have been both positive and negative. The negative, off course, weren’t negative then because they brought no foreseeable harm. However, when I think back on them now, I wonder if they had more of an effect on me than I originally thought.
